"Hood Oracle" V3 Framed Print
"'Stay hydrated young blood!',
'You look very sharp!',
'Be safe kids!',
'My man, whats up?'"
As I approached the corner store to get a few rations before the next phase of our adventure photo and video session, I overheard a man sitting on the steps of the store entrance, talking to pedestrians as they pass by.
He seemed to be unaffected by the smug looks from the stuck-up parts of the community... Ignoring the sneers, the stares, the inappropriate remarks, he spread positive energy and smiles with every greeting. He wasn't a beggar. Wasn't asking for anything but a dollar for bottles of water he was handing out.
I grabbed a water and a bag of chips, $5.23.
Walked through the door, by the sound of the chime as i left the store and the man looked up at me, checked out my camera gear and sat silent for a few seconds.
I spoke, 'Hey OG, do you need anything?'
He replied, 'No...Wait-yeah, can i get my picture?'
I smiled ear-to-ear, 'Hell yeah!'
Got a good angle and snapped a few to show him.
As i sat down i was flipping through my recent shots until I saw his
He said, 'I know who I am'
I replied 'You do? How do you know?'
'I've been here for aeons youngin' he said, 'this world has shown me who i am a million times over. You're an artist - you can see who you are through what you create. Am I right?'
I responded 'word, you're right.' I couldn't help but stare a bit because his response surprised me. He looked back out over the sidewalk to his right, looking away from me. At that moment, I checked my phone to see if i had time to further the conversation because I could sense the wisdom in his words.
Get this, by the time i looked up and toward his direction i saw nothing but the sidewalk he looked at before i checked my phone. He was GONE. Nowhere. I asked my partner, 'Where is that guy I just took a photo of? Did you see him? The one I was talking to? Sitting next to?'
My partner replied, 'Uh, no. I thought you were singing to yourself, you weren't sitting next to anybody...'
Frantically, I searched my library for the photo's i just took and I found them! I showed them to my partner in hopes that he'd recognize the old man in the photo. 'Look, this dude!' I exclaimed.
He replied 'When did you take this? Today?'
'YES.' I said.
'There was nobody on the steps bro. I didn't see you sitting next to anybody just now...'
We just stood there looking at each other for the next 60 seconds... Silent... Busy city around us and there we were. Astonished by what just happened... 'This is one for the books' I said.
Whatever man, he said - let's get back to the venue!"
