A book from the VPH Library, & powerful comprehension.
"A look into the depths of the mind" Pt. 3
This excerpt sheds light on humanities yearning to advance. As I've come to understand, in technology, psychology, self awareness, space exploration - and the stressors of the violently raw perception of life. As I write this the thought of "the unknown" comes to mind. The unknown seems to make most people tense... It almost sparks controversy - almost. People will almost shed enough light to globalize a mind-blowing finding, fear almost always follows. In a form we've grown use to - violence. Whether physical, verbal or otherwise.
In designing something that evokes intense emotion - tug on the stressors of life in subtle ways to spark the subconscious flame. For instance, you're a brand, and you want to spread awareness about your mission. Something emotionally striking. Most would agree things that are emotionally striking include but are not limited to; homelessness, death, sudden loss, societal issues, political issues, etc.
What you want to spread awareness about, is your choice. The efforts of your execution deem how many people or what kind of people you make an impact on. You choose what matters. People will either listen or not.
Let's say you're the brand that decides to spread awareness about street life. If I were you, I'd design a series of digital content pieces for different visual-first platforms. Black and white, crispy' high contrast portrait shots of nomadic people at an unfamiliarly slow pace... Enjoying a glimpse of wonder or excitement.
"My wife and I were on a walk in town one night and met someone named K (nicknamed for anonymity)... From a distance, K was wired but collected, head darting from left to right, checking his surroundings... He was selling his paintings on the street. Some beautiful ones, I'll add. We noticed one that spoke to us and offered equivalent exchange.
After talking for a bit - while I heard the excitement in his voice, I saw the effects of his life, on his face. In his eyes.. And he grew familiar to us.. He was almost a long-lost friend. His excitement felt as if selling another painting was what he hoped for. On this cold, lonely night, he found people to awe at his artwork. Filling the void life left with the ability to make a mark on others through creative manifestation of his essence.
This brief moment away from the right-now to imagine what he'd been through reminded me of his excitement about things unknown. He'd been out there for hours it seemed, without knowing IF or when someone with an eye for art will come around. Without knowing if this will be his last.... Gazing upon the what if. It was like this triumph; opened a door to imagine for a moment... Despite the stress of what was going on outside of our interaction.
We've observed that if you remind viewers that the battles they win in the midst of war are glimpses of light. It evokes a contrasting feeling... Like a tug from immense stress toward a joyous or spectacular moment.
That contrasting feeling reminds a viewer of uniqueness.
Unfamiliarity + Brilliance = a lasting memory
